Pittsburgh ComiCon: Because of my workload I will not be attending the show. Renee at the Pittsburgh ComiCon has told me my spot will be there for me next year and I plan to go!

http://genegonzales.blogspot.com/: That is the address of my new(ish) blog. I started it in December but as of January 1st 2008, I have committed to posting art everyday. That's 112 posts so far for 2008. Haven't missed a day yet. While my site will slowly be phased into more of a showcase for my commecial work, my blog is reflecting my comicbook and pin-up work. If you are interested in comic book art and/or cheesecake pinup art, check it out. See if I can keep my goal of a post for everyday of 2008

Peace

Gene

You can find me in Orange 2 section of artist alley. Anyone who is attending that would like to get on my sketch list early can contact me via email: gene_gonzales@mac.com

The publisher told me yesterday that they have copies of it in house so maybe it will be out next week. Other than that, I just don't know what to say.

Just got back last night from HeroesCon and as always it was a blast. Nice to see folks that I only get to see at conventions. Thanks to everyone who dropped by my table to say "HI!" and thanks to everyone who commissioned a sketch, or picked up some of my stuff. I will be posting some of the sketches I did at the show.

Commissions - Due to my ever changing workload, I will not be able to accept any commissions for the next few months. If you are already on the list, I will get yours done. More details about the projects that are taking up my time shortly.

New Pin-Ups - Put up 8 new images in the Pin-Up section!

Illustration - Put up 3 new images in the Illustration section!

Original Art for Sale - Put up 8 new inked images that have been used for different licensing deals. When you buy the original, you get a color print of the finished art. Also for sale is a Ms. Marvel painting I did.

Diary of Night - Looks like we are closing on a deal real soon with a publisher. More later, I hope.

BeGoth Comic Original Art - I posted a price list on the Begoths.com forum but if anyone is interested in the price list, I can email it to you. Just put "BeGoths Prices" in the subject line. Or head over to the board.

CILM News - Put up 12 new images with the fine folks at CILM.

Pittsburgh Comicon - Pittsburgh Comicon was great! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say "HI" and thanks to everyone who commissioned a sketch. Michael and Renee George and their band of merry helpers put on another great show. I donated a Vampirella painting to the Make-A-Wish auction. They managed to raise over $28,000 for this great charity. I also took part in the Quick Sketch auction to raise money for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. More than $5,000 was raised over the weekend for the CBLD!

HeroesCon - I will be there for all three days. And since I am driving I will be loaded up with prints, original art and books. I flew to Pittsburgh this year (to far to drive) and had to go lighter than normal. But for Heroes, I am loading up the vehicle! Also, if you are interested in getting a sketch from me, I will be doing that as well

That's it for now. See you at HeroesCon!

Peace,

Gene

New House! - Finally found the perfect house for us. We moved in about a month ago and are still trying to get things in order. But I am up and running with work. It's been a while for the updates but I have several new pieces of art to share and some updates on projects.

Commissions are being accepted again! - Here are the details.

New Pin-Ups - Nine new pieces including the image on the front page.

Illustration - I have added 18 new pieces to this section. Including some pages from the BeGoth Comics and Diary of Night. I don't have a separate section for comic work so this will be the place to find it.

Creative Image Licensing News - I should have 12 new pieces up with CILM by the end of next week. So far 4 images are done with the other 8 almost finished.

Diary of Night - The four-issue mini-series by Will Allred and myself is done. We are now looking for a publisher.

BeGoth Comics #2 - Finished and should be in stores in two months. It was solicited in last months Previews.

Convention News! - I will be setting up at the Pittsburgh ComicCon (April 27, 28, 29) this year. I hated missing last year. This is a great show. You will find me in my usual booth at space #S004 along the wall. Also I will be setting up in Artist Alley at HeroesCon in Charlotte, June 15, 16, & 17. If you are attending one of these great shows, stop by and say "hi".

EBAY - I am planning to put a few pieces up on eBay in the next week. Click the link to the left for my auctions.

That's it for now.

Peace

Gene

New Pin-Ups - I have put up six new pieces in the Pin-Up section. More to come later this month.

EBAY - I haven't done much on eBay in quite a while but I have posted two new images on ebay. Both auctions end on November 3rd.

Creative Image Licensing New - Twelve new pieces of art will be up on the CILM website on or before November 10th. Half will have a holiday theme.

The Wicked West II - A McCANDLESS & COMPANY short story I did with writer/creator JC Vaughn is in this anthology from Image Comics. Should have hit stores last week though I heard some stores were still getting their copies this week. Look for it. Lots of good stuff in there.

Florida SuperCon - Bad news, I had to cancel going to the show. I was looking forward to it but my workload is just not going to let me go this year. I hope to go next year though.

Sally Volt? - Hmmmmm, find out more next month.

Blogger - I'm thinking of jumping into a blog. Somewhere I can post things quickly and maybe show some in progress stuff. Here's the catch, I don't have a title. Thoughts anyone? Clean ones please.

Birthday Time! - Dakota turns 11 on the 17th of this month. This one is going to cost me folks. Happy Birthday Kota!

Peace,

Gene

September 23, 2006

We're Moving! - Big news! My family and I are moving to Largo, Florida. Largo sits right in between Clearwater and St.Petersburg. Minutes from the Gulf to the west and minutes from the bay to the east. All of us are looking forward to sunny winter weather. Effective immediately my contact info has changed. My new mailing address is:

Gene Gonzales
P.O. Box 773
Largo, Florida 33779

Email address will change also. The new address is Gene_Gonzales@mac.com. Actually I've had this address for a few years but it always routes to my CharterTN account. Now it won't. All this info will stay posted on my Contact page.

My phone number will be changing the first week of October. So the 423 area code number is still good till then.

New Art! Really! - 16 new pieces in the Pin-up section and 10 new pieces in Illustration section.

Creative Image Licensing - I am putting together another 12 images for sale though CILM. So far it has been a blast seeing what the signature group members have done with my art. Very cool stuff indeed. I hope everyone likes the newest additions to my library of images.

Florida SuperCon - I will be a guest at the Florida SuperCon. November 3-5, 2006. With the move I will be close to a new group of cons that I have never been to before and I am really looking forward to it. If you plan to be at the show, please stop by my table and say "HI!". I am planning on attending other shows in Florida so keep looking here for updates.

Diary of Night - Continues. I am three pages into the third issue and Will and I are starting to shop it around to various publisher. I plan to be done with mini-series sometime by the end of the year. Will and I are very excited by this project and I hope to have some good news to post here soon.

BeGoth Comics 2 - 12 pages into the second issue and the characters have become second nature to me. Very cool stuff happening in this issue. Maybe I can get permission to post some pages soon.

Planet X - First issue will be released next summer. But don't tell anyone I said that.

And finally - There are several projects that will start up next month. More about them with the next update in October. Really!

Peace,

Gene

August 4, 2006

HeroesCon - Wow, what a great show. We had such a good time. The crowds were big each day but still the venue was open enough for walking around without banging into someone. Was so busy I didn't get to visit much with some of the other guests I always like to see. Already looking forward to next year!

The Wicked West II - I did a short McCANDLESS & COMPANY story with writer/creator JC Vaughn for this anthology from Image Comics. You can find the ordering info in the new Previews on page 143.

Begoth Comics - I did the pencils and inks for this fun book. You can find it last months copy of Previews. I have copies of the book and it looks really nice. I just entered into an agreement to do the second book. I will start that next week and I'm looking forward to it. It's a cool book with fun characters. The challenge: keeping up with each characters various piercings and tattoos. : )

Diary of Night - Here is a project that I have put off mentioning until we were pretty far along. Diary of Night is written by talented new comer Will Allred. This is a four issue mini-series that I am doing the full art chores on. Pencils, inks and full color. Rus Wooton is providing the lettering. The first issue is completely done and I am 15 pages into the inked art for the second. Whew. More on this later.

Planet X - The project I get harrassed about more than any other. I mean that in a positive way. So many folks are looking forward to this three issue mini from me and writer Chris Mills. Well I am about a quarter of the way through the second issue and we will have an announcement of the release date in the next week or so. I'm glad there are so many out there who want this book. Heck, I'm looking forward to it myself. : ) I will leave you with just one thought: Flying vampire gorillas. Yeah, baby!

Femforce cover Q&A - I have had many emails from people who so my cover for Femforce #136 and wondered what is going on with the blond jungle girls face. Most have wondered what I was drinking when I painted her face. Well, that is not the face I painted. The blond is Irish of the Jungle. The painted image I sent is not the image on the cover. Someone decided that they wanted a change to Irish's face and digitally altered it without giving me a chance to make the change or have my name removed from the cover, which is what I would have chose if not given the chance to make the corrections they deemed necessary. For the record, that piece was painted in acrylics and not a digitally produced image as stated on the AC Comics site. I had no idea of the change until the comp books arrived here at my studio. Sigh!

Lastly - I have several other projects in the early stages. Too soon to talk about right now. More later.

Peace,

Gene

April 16, 2006

Well it has been 6 months since my last update. Busy, busy, busy. I was lucky to get some help with this update from my lovely and talented wife, Deena.

Site updates: There are new images in both the Pin-ups and Illustration section. As a matter of fact, the entire Pin-Up section has been gutted and all new pieces are there now.

On the stands now:

OVERSTREET COMIC PRICE GUIDE is on the stands. I did several pages of introductions in comic book form with writer JC Vaughn.

CRIME SCENES: A McCANDLESS & COMPANY READER is now on sale! If your local comic shop isn't carrying it, it's available for them to reorder from Diamond Comic Distributors [item #DEC052914]. It is availalbe directly from Century Comics: http://www.centurycomics.com/books.cfm for Pay Pal users. I did the art on two of the stories, more than 50 pages of the book.

CRIME SCENES: A McCANDLESS & COMPANY READER

$17.95 U.S.
144 Pages
Soft Cover
Color cover, Black & White interior

FEMFORCE #136, I believe will be on the stands this month. It features an IRISH OF THE JUNGLE short by writer Paul Monsky and art by yours truly. I also painted the cover, featured in the Illustration section of the site.

In the works: I am providing art for a company that produces really cool goth-themed dolls. It will be a 30 page black and white comic and will be available at the San Diego Con.

I am producing the art for a comic about the dangers of osteoporosis for the US Department of Health and Human Services. I am working with Desperado Studios on this one.

Just finished a new McCandless & Company story (with JC Vaughn) for WICKED WEST. More on that when I know the shipping date.

And a whole bunch of other smaller jobs that keep me busy. : )

I've been getting quite a few requests for commission pieces. Right now I am still to busy to take any commissions on. I hope to have time again in June. Watch this space for updates. And thanks to everyone for their interest AND patience.

Lastly: I will not be going to the Pittsburgh Comic Con next week. I love doing the show and I've had quite a run on continuous shows but my work load just won't allow it this year. My booth will be occupied by writer JC Vaughn. He will have copies of the books we worked on together. I'm going to miss seeing all the cool folks that I chat with every year. I am planning on being there again in 2007.

Peace,

Gene

October 30, 2005

There are several new pin-ups for sale here.

Several things happening all at once has kept me busy these last couple of months. But November has one of the biggest events happening around here. More on that at the end of this update.

First up is something I am really excited about. Aphrodisia - Art of the Female Form (www.aphrodisiashowcase.com) is coming out next month. This is a showcase book of various artists depicting the female form in a wide variety of mediums. You can check out sample pages on their website www.aphrodisiashowcase.com. My submission is on one of the pages featured there. It will be in books stores in November or you can order it through Bud Plant and any number of other fine booksellers online.

I am doing a number of introduction pages for the next Overstreet Price Guide published by Gemstone Publishing. These have been written by J.C. Vaughn and full color art provided by myself. The Overstreet Price Guide is solicited in this months Previews from Diamond and will also available in book stores early next year.

I have finished the Irish of the Jungle story for AC Comics. I am starting the painted cover tomorrow. The cover will feature Irish and Tara, an member of AC Comics team group, Femforce.

A project from a few years ago, The Adventures of Browser and Sequoia, has become an education book about the Ice Age, written by creator Richard de Montebello. I am providing the full color wraparound cover for the book.

Also still in the works but moving really slow is Planet X. A project I am still excited about but has suffered because of so many other commitments. November marks my return to the drawing board to get this book moving again. It won't be solicited until we have a majority of it finished.

November is the start month for another new project that I will touch on in the next update. I may try to post art from the project as it progresses.

And what is the biggest news for November. My daughter, Dakota has her 10th birthday November 17th. We have a very exciting birthday party planned for her and a few of her best pals. Deena and I couldn't be more proud of her. In addition to being a terrific artist, she is also a whiz at her favorite subjects, math and science. And she has an opinion on everything. She gets that from Deena. ; -)

THE MAZE AGENCY by writer/creator Mike W. Barr was one of my favorite comic books back in the day. A few years after the title had disappeared and I was doing a ton of work for Caliber Comics, I was informed that Caliber would be publishing MAZE AGENCY and they thought I would be a good fit for it. To this day my work on that book is a high light of my comic book career. Working with Mike was great fun. We even managed to get together in San Diego that year to promote the book and sign some posters of the first issue cover.

Why do I bring this all up? Well, IDW is releasing both a new MAZE AGENCY series and a collection of the previous runs from different publishers. I will be picking up them up and I urge you to give them a try. I'm not involved with the new series and it will be a long time before they reprint my run so I'm not getting anything out of this other than wanting the series to do well so they continue and I can read them. And in some cases re-read them. : ) To find out more of the history of the MAZE AGENCY, there is a nice little interview with Mike at SCOOP in the MAIN EVENT section. Check it out.

And in other MAZE AGENCY news, FANFARE SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT, INC., my favorite place for original comic book art, is currently having a huge sell on comic book art through the month of September. And in that batch of sale goodies you will find many pages from, you guessed it, MAZE AGENCY. You can find non-MAZE AGENCY artwork by me there too.

September 02, 2005

As of today I have to discontinue taking on commissions. My workload has taken over the time I would have for commissions. Some of the projects include a three-issue mini series titled PLANET X with writer/creator Chris Mills. Also finishing up an IRISH OF THE JUNGLE short with writer Paul Monsky. (Honest, Paul!). Also a couple of projects for Gemstone Publishing that I can't speak of right now, but are really cool. Three pages of MCCANDLESS & COMPANY with writer/creator JC Vaughn. And a couple of other big projects in the works. I am still accepting commercial projects though, it was just that new commissions will stop for a while. On occasion I will be putting pieces on eBay, both old and new.

August 4, 2005

Quick news item: One of my devilgirl pieces was selected to be included in a new art book. The books title is APHRODISIA 2005 Art of the Female Form. The book is being solicited in the new Diamond catalog PREVIEWS on page 400. More details about the book can be found here at the APHRODISIA site.
