Conventionless Convention Commissions - Fall 2015

All character © their individual owners

CONVENTIONLESS CONVENTION COMMISSION (CCC)! It's just like a regular con sketch that I would do for you at a convention, except no crowds, no convention hall food, no hotel bill, and no travel. And the price is the same as a show sketch. You only have to pay extra for shipping. Still cheaper than going to a show. If you have been waiting to get a black and white, inked single character sketch from me, now is the time to get it. This time around I am offering some other options as well. If not for yourself, maybe you want a gift for that special someone? The holidays are just around the corner!

Here are the CCC options...

  •  9" x 12" Inked head shot: $50.00

  •  11" x 17" Inked single character: $75.00

  •  11" x 17" Inked with some color single character: $125.00

I will not be doing multiple characters on a single board. Shipping is $15.00. No matter how many sketches you get! Buy 1: Shipping is $15.00! Buy 20, shipping is $15.00! This shipping cost is for the US only, sorry. If you are outside the US, please contact me for shipping costs.

I have not set a specific amount of requests that I will take. I will just see what the requests are and see what I can handle. I am planning to begin them on November 16th and complete them by Dec. 16th. Any background elements will be at my discretion. Finished art will be mailed each Thursday or Friday.

Payment is PayPal only. (No e-checks, please).

If you are interested, send me an email to gene_gonzales(at)mac(dot)com. Please use "Conventionless Convention Commission" in the subject line and let me know what you would like. That address and subject line are very important. It helps me sort the requests from other emails. That email address is also my PayPal account, but check with me before sending money, please. I do reserve the right to turn down requests that I don't feel comfortable drawing. If you have any questions, please email me.

Please tell your friends, family, and local politicians. Tweet it on Twitter, Tumble it on Tumblr, Pin it on Pinterest, Face it on Facebook...Okay, that one didn't sound right, but you get the idea. Please get the word out any way you can. Thanks! :)

More Legion of Super-Heroes

I am in the middle of some color Legionnaire commissions. Here are two of the recent ones.

Duo Damsel © DC Comics

Mon-El © DC Comics

Sorry about the images. My scanner has never done a decent job with the subtlety of watercolors so I just took quick photos of the images.

I've had a few emails asking about doing a round of commissions for the holidays. I am hoping to announce something along those lines in the next few weeks. I've had a couple work projects going and then I had a big series of jobs drop in my lap that need to be done. Plus I still have a few more Legion paintings that I took on just before the extra, extra work happened. When I have a better idea of my time I will announce something here and on Twitter. Which feeds my Facebook page as well.

Superboy starring The Legion of Super-Heroes #212 - Retro Variant Cover

Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes © DC Comics

This was a project I wanted to do for years. I thought it would be fun to do variant covers where the back-up story was featured on the cover. The production error on the original cover for Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroess was the inspiration. The two titles on the cover are flopped. It should have read "Last Fight for a Legionnaire" (the lead story) Plus "Death Stroke at Dawn" (the back up). But someone messed up the order.

So I took the back up story of Night Girl and Shadow Lass (with Cosmic Boy) and made it the cover feature. This entire piece was done by hand, logos, lettering and all in ink on 11" x 17" bristol board. I had so much fun with this I imagine I will do some more in the near future.

Below is the original cover by Mike Grell.

HeroesCon 2015 - Final

Here are the last of the pieces done for or at HeroesCon. If I didn't include yours it just means I neglected/forgot to take a picture at the show or scan it in advance. If you have a picture/scan of the art that you would like me to share send it to me. Enjoy!

HeroesCon 2015 - Part 3

I will be finishing up the presentation of the pieces done for HeroesCon over the weekend. Didn't mean to drag it out. I came home to an incredible amount of work that has to be done by Monday morning. Here are some photos taken of pieces I did at the show. Not of scan quality but still fun to share. I hope enjoy!

More this weekend. Stay tuned!

Conventionless Convention Commissions #6 & #7

Eartha © respective owners

I had never heard of Eartha before. She is/was the title character of a British comic strip featuring the art of John M. Burns. I had seen Mr. Burns work before and I am a fan but I had never seen this character. Looks like a fun strip and I really enjoyed drawing her. Look her up to check out some great artwork.

Wonder Woman © DC Comics

This take on Wonder Woman (I believe) is based on the Ame-Comi statue design from a few years back. She was commissioned by the same person that commissioned the anime version of Big Barda that you can see here. Fun to draw! I wonder how many more there were in that series???

Would this post double your bad luck? :)

This is the last day to get on either the Conventionless Convention Commission list or the advance commission list for HeroesCon. I do need to have a cut off date to insure I get all the artwork done.

Both pieces are ink on 11" x 17" bristol board.

HeroesCon Advance Commission List Is Open

HeroesCon 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina is coming up fast. The dates are June 19-21. I will be sitting next to my friend and travel mate, the one and only Joe Pekar. It's too early to announce where we will be located but as soon as I find out I will post it here.

HeroesCon is my favorite convention and since I have already been receiving emails asking about my
commission list for the show, I figure it's time to open up the advance commission list. I will actually work on this list leading up to the convention. Especially the more complicated pieces.

At the same time I will be taking on a number of Conventionless Convention Commission for those that can not attend HeroesCon.

Email me if you have any questions. Please use the subject line "HeroesCon Commission List" or "Conventionless Convention Commission"I have a smart mailbox that separates emails with those subject lines in order for me to stay organized. Thanks!
